What CPLP Will do for You
The CPLP credential enables WLP professionals to enhance their reputation, showcase their knowledge, differentiate themselves and their programs, maintain rigorous standards within the profession, and prove their capability to lead the training function.
Credentialing provides a roadmap for professional development, while increasing an individual’s earning potential, and broadening their career opportunities.

The CPLP™ credentialing process
The CPLP™ certification program is designed to evaluate the competence of WLP professionals across all nine (9) Areas of Expertise (AOEs). Beyond the initial eligibility requirements, the certification program requires candidates to successfully complete two phases of assessment: a Knowledge-based Exam, and a Work Product Submission. Be sure to visit the ASTD CI CPLP™ Candidate website for complete details.
The Knowledge Exam consists of 150 multiple-choice questions covering the (9) AOEs.
CPLP™ candidates must first achieve success on the Knowledge exam before submitting a Work Product - an actual WLP project based on a specific AOE - for evaluation.
The Work Product is assessed according to specific scoring criteria that evaluate the quality of the actual work product sample and the responses to questions grouped across four Core Component areas: Project Relationships, Planning, Output and Outcomes.

The CPLP™ commitment
Attaining the CPLP™ requires an investment of your time and financial resources. The CPLP™ credentialing process requires a minimum 8-month commitment of the candidate’s time. The fee to apply for certification is $799 for National ASTD members ($899 Regular). Visit the CPLP™ Study Group page to learn more.

ASTD-OC hosts a web-based study group to help candidates prepare for the CPLP™ knowledge exam. The CPLP™ Study Group consists of 11 online sessions, including an introduction, sessions dedicated to each Area of Expertise (AOE), and a closing session with exam-taking tips and techniques. These 90-minute sessions are facilitated by CPLP™ credential holders from all over California and around the nation who are experts in the AOE being presented.
