Special Interest Groups

Meetups for Niche Interests

Special Interest Groups (SIGS) are smaller, more focused gatherings intended to provide ASTD-OC members with opportunities to explore specific areas of interest, and to network with other professionals who share those interests. 

Attending SIGs is free for members, and $15 for non-members, for both live and online meetings. Everyone with an interest is welcome; however, seating at live SIG meetings is limited. These meetings fill quickly, and members are given priority. Fees for non-members will be collected at the time of registration.

Chapter membership gives many benefits -- such as attending SIGs for free, plus discounts on monthly learning events and workshops! Annual membership costs less than the non-member cost of seven SIG meetings. Join now, and get free priority registration at the SIGs of your choice!

Training and Technology SIG

This SIG focuses on the use of technology in learning. Top executives want training that is as as cost effective as possible; employees want training that is creative and interactive. Technology offers many solutions for meeting these demands. 

Join us to learn how to create e-learning solutions, select appropriate software simulations, develop computer and web-based training methodologies, and discover the most current high-tech methods that propel sales, generate cash flow, and increase profits.

Training Managers Meet Up

Training Management Meet Ups (TMMU) are a series of quarterly meetings that bring together those responsible for managing the employee training function. Its purpose is to help them develop relationships, share experiences, tools, resources, and best practices with one another. Participants in TMMU are
  • Training Supervisors
  • Managers
  • Directors
  • Vice Presidents 
The group meets quarterly at various locations across Orange County.

Organizational Development SIG

This SIG provides a forum for internal and external OD practitioners to network and learn from other professionals in the field.

OD SIG meetings present topics such as mentoring programs, leading change, best practices in employee retention, employee engagement, solving the challenges of supervisor and management training, and many others.

We are making some changes in 2014 in hopes to better meet the needs of our members.  

The two significant changes are a change in time and frequency of our meetings.

We will be meeting every other month - still on the first Tuesday - see dates below:

And we will be moving to a morning format as opposed to a lunch hour event. Registration/networking will open at 7:30 and the program will be from 8-9 am.


Trainers SIG

This SIG helps classroom trainers build their presentation and delivery skills. This is your opportunity to: 
  • Learn from experienced facilitators
  • Network with other professionals
  • Practice and increase your skills.
The Trainers SIG meets bi-monthly, and covers a wide range of topics, including presentation skills, effective delivery, and accessing resources.

Regardless of your experience level, you come away with valuable information and new capabilities!

Who should attend:
  • Trainers – both experienced and those building a new practice
  • Training managers, instructional designers, and SMEs who deliver presentations
  • Students and professionals in transition who want to know more about training and building skills.
