Special Interest Groups

Meetups for Niche Interests

Ensuring Member Access to our SIGs
2011 has been a great year for SIGs! SIG meetings are so popular they are regularly reaching capacity. As a result, beginning January 2012, non-members will pay $15 to attend a SIG meeting (live or online).

SIG meetings will remain a free member benefit to all ASTD-OC members whose membership is current. The purpose of this is to give members a priority and encourage non-members to join and take advantage of our other member benefits (attending 7 SIG meetings per year completely pays for the cost of membership -- and that doesn't even include member discounts for other programs!)

Fees for non-members will be collected at the time of registration.

We have excellent topics and speakers on the 2012 SIG schedule, so if you've been waiting to become a chapter member, now is the time. Become a Member today or visit our Calendar to register for our January SIG meetings.

Special Interest Groups (SIGs) are specialized forums for on-going professional development, forums to share innovative ideas, share experiences, and explore future challenges.

These informal groups provide ASTD-OC members with opportunities for exploring professional development in specific areas of interest, opportunities in sharing their expertise with other members, and opportunities to network with colleagues.

Participation in SIG events and meetings is an extension of  membership benefits and one of the many ways we bring more value to your ASTD-OC membership. The quality and number of Special Interest Groups (SIGs) provide members with opportunities for professional development and networking with colleagues.

Non-members and guests are invited to attend 2 SIG meetings before encouraged to join ASTD Orange County.

For more information on becoming involved in these SIGs, contact our SIGs VP This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Career Management SIG
(Group leader, Christine Kelly)

This group provides professional career coaching for those who want to remain current in managing their careers, or who are in the midst of a career transition.  We seek to provide a community of support for those who want assistance during a transition, or to provide resources for individuals who are in a season of career exploration.

Community Services and Student Outreach SIG

"Developing ourselves through developing others."

As budgeting belts tighten, non?profit organizations are finding more ways to do more with less. As financial shoestrings get more taut and more frayed, they may make difficult decisions to cut infrastructure services to stay afloat.  One of these infrastructure services is frequently: training.

ASTD Orange County's philosophy is that training is critical to the overall success of an organization. That's why we've arranged a group of training and development professionals to help you with your organization's training needs, free of charge.* The Community Services Special Interest Group (SIG) is willing to roll up our sleeves and lend our hands.

Should you want to lend a hand, join the Community Services SIG online group.  We'll post new facilitation and design opportunities, and share our successes.

Organizational Development SIG
(Group leader, Janine McDonald)

This group provides a forum for internal and external OD practitioners to network and learn from other professionals in the field.

Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of every month. (Though meetings may also be held on the 2nd Tuesday when holidays conflict.)

Time: 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Location: Laguna Canyon Rd., Irvine, CA  92618

Training and Technology SIG
(Group leader:  Pam Coca)

This group provides a forum to expand our professional knowledge regarding the use of technology in learning solutions.  Training is often accused of being a cash drain instead of being a revenue generator. Top executives are always looking for ways to make training cost effective. Employees want training that is creative and interactive. Come learn how to create e-learning solutions, select appropriate software simulations, develop computer and web-based training methodologies, and discover the most current high-tech methods that propel sales, cash flow, and profits.

This group presents a different topic at every meeting.  For detailed descriptions of the topics, please check out the events calendar.
