Companies devote critical resources of time and talent to build the capabilities of employees through training. Some companies use the measure of classroom hours, or “butts in seats” to assess the effectiveness of training. But training is effective only when learners learn – that is, change their behavior. How can trainers facilitate better learning through more effective transfer of learning? What techniques, inside and outside of the classroom, will help learners apply what they’ve learned?

In the May Trainers Special Interest Group meeting, we’ll focus on how trainers can help ensure their work actually makes a difference = that learners use what they’ve learned to improve performance on the job. We’ll look at actions trainers can take before, during and after a class to increase the chances learning is applied in real life, and that the company experiences the benefits of its training programs.
