SIG events

Special Interest Groups (SIGS) are smaller, more focused gatherings intended to provide ATD-OC members with opportunities to explore specific areas of interest, and to network with other professionals who share those interests.

Oh! If you were looking for a list of our Monthly Learning Events, you can find them here.

If you were looking for a schedule of longer form workshops, they can be found here.

Energy—The Unseen Force:  Understanding & Harnessing Energy for Training Success

What do Luke Skywalker and Bruce Lee have in common? A unique understanding of something supremely subtle, but practically powerful—Energy! Martial arts practitioners become disciplined in harnessing it, while legends, even of the Jedi, speak of a "force" that surrounds us all. Science now validates that harnessing Energy is an effective tool for improving cognition. This Trainers SIG will highlight:

    • Western Science: the research, and why now's the time to consider it in terms of training.
    • Eastern Philosophy: the ways Energy (“Qi” or “Chi”) has historically been harnessed, and its new-found relevancy considering the research.
    • Combining East & West: bringing past wisdom with present technology to provide techniques and tools we can integrate into our trainings to elevate their effectiveness.

    Our Presenter

Ever since Erica redeveloped a youth leadership program for the City of Irvine, she’s been passionate about helping people tap their potential. But by 2009 Erica’s own potential halted, falling victim to the Great Recession, prompting an intense exploration into job search strategies and personal branding.

What sprang from this turmoil was an opportunity to blend her “superpowers” of award-winning public speaking, a knack for training, and her new-found career development expertise. These superpowers now drive Erica B Coaching.

Throughout her career, Erica has trained over 4500 people working within organizations such as Orangewood Foundation and Goodwill of Orange County. She’s coached TEDx Speakers and industry experts from companies such as Better Engineering, Prana, and Kingston. Erica’s currently working with ATD-OC to launch a “professionals in transition” training program.

Erica Beggan - a Professional Coach with a superpower to help you find yours!

Have you ever pursued vocal naysayers for your change steering committee? Sounds a little bizarre, doesn’t it? But, think about it. What happens when we ignore vocal leaders who resist an organizational change?

Join us as Jennifer DePaola, a PROSCI trained and certified change leader, tells us how she successfully integrated active resisters into a company-wide Workday software implementation at Young’s Market. This change required people to radically shift in just about every way they engaged HR.

This program will help you improve your ability to:

    • Use a Change Sponsorship Assessment to identify key resisters
    • Engage key resisters to anticipate possible points of resistance
    • Increase interaction and buy-in of stakeholders
    • Anticipate possible problems then plan for feedback and stakeholder support

Our program includes a broad overview and discussion of one change model, a presentation and discussion of the Young’s Market case study, and an opportunity to interact with others who are learning about and implementing organizational change.

Yeah, that’s a lot for 90 minutes, so bring your A-game and come prepared to participate!
