Special Interest Groups (SIGS) are smaller, more focused gatherings intended to provide ATD-OC members with opportunities to explore specific areas of interest, and to network with other professionals who share those interests.

    Learning and Development:
    Does It Need to Be Transformed?

    Do C-Suite Executives believe we impact organization goals?

    Many articles have argued recently about the need for L&D to provide more value. There are concerns that C-Suite Executives don’t believe L&D truly understand the business. Are we having the impact we should on our organization’s goals?

    This program is about the journey to demonstrate L&D’s impact on organizational outcomes. Join us and the discussion:

    • Why L&D still does not have a seat at the executive table
    • Why L&D struggles (more than it should) for resources

Peggy has over 25 years of experience in driving strategic change to improve organizational and individual performance.     Don McGray is an Independent Management Consultant with Next Step Solutions, Inc. During his 16-year career at Aramco Services Company (ASC), a subsidiary of Saudi Aramco, the world’s largest private oil company, Don led the teams responsible for the transformation of three support departments (Security & Loss Prevention Group, the Background Investigations Group, and the Training Group) from isolated departments into business units strategically aligned with company goals.

    Have you ever pursued vocal naysayers for your change steering committee? Sounds a little bizarre, doesn’t it? But, think about it. What happens when we ignore vocal leaders who resist an organizational change?

    Join us as Jennifer DePaola, a PROSCI trained and certified change leader, tells us how she successfully integrated active resisters into a company-wide Workday software implementation at Young’s Market. This change required people to radically shift in just about every way they engaged HR.

    This program will help you improve your ability to:

    • Use a Change Sponsorship Assessment to identify key resisters
    • Engage key resisters to anticipate possible points of resistance
    • Increase interaction and buy-in of stakeholders
    • Anticipate possible problems then plan for feedback and stakeholder support

    Our program includes a broad overview and discussion of one change model, a presentation and discussion of the Young’s Market case study, and an opportunity to interact with others who are learning about and implementing organizational change.

    Yeah, that’s a lot for 90 minutes, so bring your A-game and come prepared to participate!

    Jennifer DePaola serves as SVP, Human Resources & Chief Diversity Officer at Young's Market Company. She oversees all recruiting, training, leadership, talent development, HR operations and corporate diversity. Prior to joining Young’s Market Company in 2012, she served in Human resources leadership roles in a variety of organizations and industries including The Walt Disney Company, Anchor Blue, Ruby’s Diner, BJ’s Restaurants, Allergan, and Advantage Sales and Marketing. Jennifer has a BA in Organizational & Interpersonal Communications from CSUF, and an MA in Organization Leadership from Chapman University.

    Do you ever get anxious before important presentations, training new material for the first time...or maybe even before each facilitation you conduct? Does your anxiety sometimes keep you from getting started on your preparation, prevent you from sleeping at night, or make you tongue-tied at just the wrong moment?

    If so—as you’ve very likely heard—you’re not alone. Fear of public speaking consistently shows up in research as one of top two or three all-time biggest fears of the general population, offing beating out death for the top spot. And guess what? The not so secret secret is that it’s not just the general public that gets anxious before presenting. Most trainers do too.

    Come to the January Trainers’ SIG and:

    • Learn more than 10 easy to implement strategies for dealing with the fear of public speaking
    •  Practice at least 5 of those strategies at the session to begin to build “muscle memory” so you’ll actually use them the next time you’re in an anxiety provoking situation
    • Contribute to the group’s learning by sharing the techniques that have worked for you in the past: many of you have developed strategies for successfully dealing with anxiety in the past, and we want to hear about them

    So come to the Trainers’ SIG in January to gain more mechanisms for handling the fear of public speaking. And as a bonus, you’ll find that many of the techniques we cover are helpful for dealing with anxiety in the other areas of your life, where you experience it. We’ll hope to see you there!
